Crypto's Media Format: X Spaces and Live Video Shows

Most crypto projects buy attention in slots: a post here, a banner there, one influencer quote. A show is media - a recurring format with a host, guests, an audience and a back catalogue that keeps working after the live moment ends. Media, not ad slots.

Two formats carry it. An X Space is live audio on X. A live video show is that same conversation on camera, broadcast to X and YouTube at once. Both put your project inside a real conversation.

How the format works

A good Space books guests, sets a topic worth showing up for, and runs with a host who can carry the room. Ours are hosted by Justin Roberti, a HackerNoon journalist. Reach goes up to 150K listeners.

A video show streams to X and YouTube at the same time. One recording becomes a permanent asset on both platforms: searchable on YouTube, clippable on X, embeddable anywhere.

What it produces

  • Reach - a Space can pull up to 150K listeners, in the room and on the topic.
  • Trust - a host-led conversation with named guests builds real credibility.
  • Distribution - the live moment, the clips, the replay and the thread turn one hour into weeks of posts across X and YouTube.

Every show runs the WAS Labs Playbook, en route from attention to action: Narrative -> Distribution -> Conversion. The topic and guests set the narrative, the broadcast and clips handle distribution, the CTA and follow-up drive conversion.

The receipts

Take the io.net episode, "Is Decentralization Critical to Safe AI?" - a Cognitio x Blockleaders show broadcast live on X and YouTube. On air it ran 66.2 hours of total watch time: 485 live views (344 unique) and 356 replay views (290 unique). The X post carrying the episode did 29K impressions and 11.6K video views in its first 18 hours - post-level engagement, counted separately from the people who watched the stream. The full recap has the breakdown.

A separate MoonPay video broadcast drew 12,000 viewers. Watch the broadcast.

Two companion pieces break down the mechanics: how we fill a Space with a real audience in the Spaces reach playbook, and what a single video episode buys you in the live-show breakdown.
